This Room Called GROUND

WHEN BIPOC ARTISTS NOURISH THEMSELVES  WE  ARE  MIXING  UP  THE STAGNANT  ENERGIES AND  ALLOW  MOVEMENT SO OTHERS  CAN  TRAVEL FORWARD  AND  BEYOND. THE  RELEASE  OF  OUR CREATIVITY   RIPPLES OUT  AND  HEALS.
MS BRIDGFORTH  PULLED THREE  CARDS  FROM  AN ORACLE  DECK  SHE  HAD CREATED ASKING  “WHAT DOES DIVINE LOVE  WANT ME  TO  KNOW  RIGHT NOW?”
THE  MESSAGE WAS: CLEANSE,  DANCE  AND CLEANSE.

This room called GROUND is a space in support of queer, diasporic BIPoC artists and [cultural] worker allies. In times like this, for many of us the forms of being together might be dangerous and often impossible.  Jobs are getting canceled and postponed, interactions are being held always mediated by a screen. The exacerbation of an already lonely, already marginalized, anxious and dissident life is accentuating the precarity that as artists, we very well know.

This room called GROUND will offer short day residencies where black, brown, queer and migrant people (and friends) can contribute in the making of this installative work room.
They are invited to use the materials of the tiny feminist queer ecosystem that the art space Les Complices* caringly provides. Artists can use the walls, the copymachine, the books, and other tools. We dream of a zine publication to emerge from those seeds, nourished by the various contributions and growing slowly like a plant.

From April to June, we will also organize performances, readings and discussions on topics focused on care and decoloniality.
Since this project grows like a plant, sometimes in unexpected ways, we decided not to share a previously fixed program or the list of participant artists. Instead public events will be announced with the newsletter, instagram @lescomplices_zh and on this website.
